Cooling Tower Analysis And Protection
Jun 14, 2024
The materials of cooling towers are generally carbon steel, stainless steel and copper. When carbon steel tube sheets are used as cooling towers, the welds between the tube sheets and the tubes often corrode and leak. The leaked materials enter the cooling water system, which will pollute the environment and waste materials.
When the cooling tower is manufactured, manual arc welding is generally used for welding the tube sheets and tubes. There are defects of varying degrees in the shape of the welds, such as depressions, pores, slag inclusions, etc., and the distribution of weld stress is also uneven. When in use, the tube sheet part is in contact with industrial cooling water, and the impurities, salts, gases, and microorganisms in the industrial cooling water will cause corrosion to the tube sheet and welds. Studies have shown that industrial water, whether fresh water or seawater, will have various ions and dissolved oxygen, among which the concentration changes of chloride ions and oxygen play an important role in the corrosion shape of metals. In addition, the complexity of the metal structure will also affect the corrosion morphology.
For the anti-corrosion problem of cooling towers, the traditional method is mainly repair welding, but repair welding can easily cause internal stress inside the tube sheet, which is difficult to eliminate, and may cause the cooling tower tube sheet weld to leak again. At present, Western countries mostly use polymer composite materials for protection.
