Cooling Tower Calculation Instructions
Jun 10, 2024
1. During the operation of the cooling tower, the amount of circulating water is gradually lost due to the following factors:
A During the heat exchange process between hot water and cold air in the tower body, some of the water will become gas and evaporate;
B Since cold air is pumped by mechanical energy (engine and windmill), some water will be pumped under high wind speed conditions;
C Due to the repeated circulation of cooling water, the concentration of solids in the water increases day by day, which affects the water quality and is prone to algae growth. Therefore, it should be partially discharged and replenished with fresh water.
2. Calculation instructions for water supply:
A Amount of water lost through evaporation (E)
E = Q/600 = (T1-T2)*L/600
E represents evaporated water (kg/h); Q represents heat load (Kcal/h);
600 represents the latent heat of evaporation of water (Kcal/h); T1 represents the inlet water temperature (℃);
T2 represents the outlet water temperature (℃); L represents the volume of water in circulation (kg/h)
B loss of water through splashes (C)
The splash loss of a cooling tower is determined by the type of cooling tower design, wind speed, and other factors. Under normal circumstances, its value is approximately equal to about 0.1~0.2% of the circulating water volume. C regular discharge water loss (D)
The loss of regularly discharged water depends on factors such as water quality or the concentration of solids in the water. Generally, it is about 0.3% of the circulating water volume.
Supply water volume (M)
The total volume of circulating water supply in the water tower is equal to M=E + C + D
When the cooling tower is used for air conditioning, the temperature difference is designed to be 5°C. At this time, the supply water required by the cooling tower is about 2% of the circulating water.
